Coriky album set for release, shows on tap this week

We here at There's Something Hard in There broke the news about a year ago that the then-unnamed band Coriky had a record in the bag awaiting future release.

That time has nearly arrived.

On Feb. 11, Dischord Records announced that the trio of Ian MacKaye (guitar, vocals), Amy Farina (drums, vocals) and Joe Lally (bass, vocals) will unleash its debut 11-song self-titled record on March 27. As a bonus, the band began streaming its song "Clean Kill" on Bandcamp the same day.

The band was formed in 2015 and played its first two gigs in November of 2018.

According to this blog, the band was on hold until Lally returned from tour with the Messthetics, which features drummer Brendan Canty. (MacKaye, Lally and Canty all plied their trade in Fugazi and MacKaye and Farina form the Evens.)

As we heard from attendees at the shows, the band's offering was an amalgamation of Evens and Fugazi sounds. "Clean Kill" treads that path, starting out on the mellow route and then cranking up the volume later in the song. It's a solid teaser for the upcoming release.

Coriky will hit the road this week on a quick jaunt:

Here's the lyrics to "Clean Kill," as shown on a sheet the band handed out at shows:

Clean Kill

She rinsed out her cup
When the next shift showed up
Her replacement asked her "What's been going on?"
She said, "Not very much"
But she'd seen a lot of action
Oh, the terrible things she'd seen
On her screen
It's a clean kill, but it's not clean
When she stepped outside
Raised her eyes to the sky
The fatal stare is somewhere up there
Looking for someone to die
Soap and water
Will never get rid of that spot
That she's got
It's a clean kill, but it's not clean
Not enough soap and water
Never enough soap and water

Sandrider, Fucked & Bound, Tacos! and Cat Toy bring the noise to the Clock-Out Lounge

Fucked & Bound. (All Cat Rose photos)

For those people wearing earplugs on this night of blistering sounds, they surely had to give them the heave-ho afterward. There’s no way those fuckers survived the aural onslaught that surged forth from the sturdy hands and throats of Seattle stalwarts Sandrider, Fucked & Bound, Tacos! and Cat Toy.

And if those ear plugs exited the Clock-Out Lounge unscathed on Jan. 25, we don’t wanna know.

What we do want the word on is if anyone not sporting earplugs can still hear anything as of this report.

Here’s some Cat Rose photos from the mega-gig (...and her ears are still ringing):
