Samiam, Off With Their Heads, at El Corazon in Seattle, 8.4.24/ All Cat Rose photos

Samiam (All Cat Rose photos)

We hadn't seen the mighty Samiam for more than 11 years -- and that was a stripped-down, stellar acoustic gig at the Ramones Museum in Berlin.

In fact, Seattle was sans Samiam for more than 20 years until the Berkeley sons invaded El Corazon on Aug. 4 with their comrades in all things melody and noise Off With Their Heads from Minneapolis.

We were Sunday-night stoked for this one and both units delivered the punked-up products to the revved-up crowd. The Samiam portion of the evening took us back to those memorable Seattle gigs, plus sonic soirees in Berkeley, Sacramento and San Jose in the '90s.

It was good to have the guys back in our lives for the night.

Here are Cat Rose's photos from the gathering:

FEAR, DOA, Giuda and The Scoffs at The Showbox in Seattle, on Aug. 17/ All Cat Rose photos

Lee Ving of FEAR. (All Cat Rose photos)

By Andy

Los Angeles, Vancouver, Rome and Seattle.

Those are some solid punk rock cities, and we were treated to a fearsome foursome of bands on Aug. 17 at The Showbox in Seattle in the form of FEAR, DOA, Giuda and The Scoffs, who all hail, respectively, from those California, Canada, Italy and Washington locales.

There were plenty of hot spots and some slower ones during the boisterous gig, which saw seasoned vets FEAR and DOA -- who I first witnessed in full hardcore mode in the early '80s -- lead the charge along with the stompin' Giuda and razor-sharp locals The Scoffs.

Lee Ving and Joey Shithead are still raging after all these years.

We'll let Shithead nail down some of the night's pertinent messages from his familiar spot at stage left with flying guitar and craggy voice:

* For big businesses and corporations, "Two words -- it works every time. Fuck you."

* "Fuck racism. Everybody has the right to be treated equal."

Cheers to FEAR and DOA (both!) -- with assistance from photographer Alison Braunstein -- for supplying photo passes for Cat Rose.
