Got issues? Seattle bands can be your support group

Who doesn't want to peruse bands, swill beer or wine and partake in a wild time at 2 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon?

Nealan Blinstrub, who fronts the band Having Issues, is thrusting that idea into action with a screech and a scream at The Conservatory in the Georgetown neighborhood of Seattle.

On Saturday, her band along with Charlatan, 2 Libras and Communal 40oz. put a few extra dings into the exposed brick backdrop of the coffee house -- which offers a selection of adult beverages as well -- with their dark and loud tuneage.

Her goal is to bring the merriment to The Conservatory from 2-6 p.m. every third Saturday of the month and let four bands and a DJ loose on the place.

"I wanted to mix genres. I'm not really one that just wants to keep one genre. I wanted to make sure that I can accommodate all music-goers to some degree, but more along the lines of punk and gothic and death rock and a little bit of metal if it fits in -- it is what it is. I just want to have a good time," Blinstrub said outside of The Conservatory on Saturday.

The concert idea stemmed from her forming the Seattle Punk Meetup group about five years ago. The group puts on different events (from hanging out at gigs to movie nights) and grew from one (Blinstrub) to almost 500 members.

Plus she wanted her band to plug in and unleash their tunes on the people.

"We wanna play out and I'd like to make my own schedule if I can," she said with a laugh, "And plus, I wanna give back to the community. It's a cheap seven bucks for four bands."
