When on vacation, you must rock.
And so Cat and I partook in the crucial activity at the venerable O'Brien's Pub in Allston Rock City, MA, on July 12 alongside the vigorous foursome of bands and performers: Academy Order, Riverbed, Bar Chord Betty and Pleasure Coffin.
Situated at the tip of Harvard Ave., the O'Brien's crew welcomed us inside its hallowed walls for a night of caustic sounds that traversed the punk, death and post rock, hardcore and electronic/noise terrains. A perfect concoction of tuneage for our ravenous ears.
As a bonus, I reconvened with my pal Chip Jones from Honor Role and his family and chatted away in between the raging songs. The last time I saw Chip was in 1988, so it was cool and meaningful to reconnect with an old friend. Honor Role used to stay at our home in Redondo Beach, CA, when they played in the LA area, and we had many stellar times together there and when I first witnessed them in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, NC.
