Tacos!, Dryland and Melancholia blast the Kraken in Seattle on Nov. 8, 2025/ Review and Cat Rose photos

Tacos! delivered their tunes with such heft that they knocked a monitor out of whack.

The Seattle trio smiled at one another and then at the crowd as the soundman jumped on stage and mended the wounded monitor. When the job was complete, Tacos! continued its blistering and yes, melodic journey on the most rocking-est of evenings on Nov. 8 at the Kraken Bar & Lounge in Seattle's University District as part of the Cloudbreak Music Festival.

Joining the fray were the Bellingham one-two punch of Dryland and Melancholia, who each took their turns at offering some solid tonnage while decimating eardrums and plastering grins onto rockers' faces.

Cat and I had previously witnessed the hometowners Tacos! several times in the two-piece realm with masterful musicians Lupe Flores on drums and vocals and Donovan Stewart on guitar and vocals. So this was our first Tacos! experience with the stellar Hozoji Matheson-Margullis giving the band power-trio status on bass and vocals (we have, of course, seen her hammer the drums with Helms Alee on copious instances). She's been on board for about two years, so we were stoked to finally see Tacos! in this iteration.

While Tacos! already produced a massive sound with just Flores and Stewart on stage, Matheson-Margullis adds a vital piece to the equation and left us nodding our heads in approval (as always) while each song tore through the club.

Speaking of tacos (had to go there, right?), Flores' sterling Situ Tacos business in Ballard was recently named one of the best new restaurants in the country by Esquire. Now that's fucking rad.

When Flores got Situ going during COVID, we made an order and she delivered a bag of tacos to our home once. From the stage to the doorstep -- and we were two happy taco eaters that day.

It's nice to see Flores bringing her culinary dream to fruition alongside pounding the drums like a champ with Tacos! Now that's a superior one-two punch, as well.

Here are Cat Rose's photos from the gig:
